We recently wrapped up a full dock and deck restoration in Lake Waynoka, along with a deep clean of the property’s beautiful stone fire pit area. This job was all about using the right products and methods to protect both the wood and the water keeping everything looking great while staying safe for the lake environment.

We started by foam blasting all surfaces with DEFY’s marine-safe wood dock cleaner, a biodegradable formula made with oxygenated bleach. This cleaner is safe to use near lakes and waterways, yet powerful enough to lift deep grime and open the wood’s pores for proper stain absorption.
After the cleaner had time to work, we followed up with a complete pressure wash and sanding to remove the old, failing sealant and prep the surface for a fresh new coat. The result was clean, smooth wood ready for long-lasting protection.

The stone fire pit area also received a full foam blast and scrub, targeting moss and organic buildup between the rocks. Once the debris was loosened, we pressure washed the stones and sand joints before giving the entire area a thorough rinse. The fire pit now looks refreshed and ready for cozy fall evenings by the lake.

For this project, we used Sherwin-Williams SuperDeck® Water-Based Semi-Transparent Stain in Tavern Oak — a perfect choice for lakeside decks. The water-based formula prevents oil film buildup on the water’s surface and provides durable protection that stands up to Ohio’s changing seasons.
SuperDeck’s semi-transparent finish enhances the wood’s natural character while allowing it to fade gradually over time rather than crack or peel. That means future maintenance is as simple as a light wash and recoat every few years.

TimberTide Tip:
If your lakefront deck or dock is starting to show signs of wear, don’t wait until spring. Fall and early winter are great times to seal and protect your wood before harsh weather sets in, making your next season worry-free and ready for relaxation.
